One of Brian's weapons impacts while leading a 10-aircraft
joint Navy / Air Force / Marine Corps strike against Saddam Hussein outside of Baghdad on April 2, 2003.
Brian preparing to catapult launch off the USS Abraham Lincoln before leading the joint strike on the Saddam Hussein ancestral farm.
As the flight lead in a 10 plane joint strike on the Saddam Hussein ancestral farm, Lieutenant DeJarnett's extraordinary tactical ability and fearless execution in the heavily defended targeted area was inspirational and played an integral role in the success of the mission. While increasing to the target, he was forced to defend guided and unguided surface-to-air missiles and antiaircraft artillery fire. Bypassing a briefed option to employ weapons at maximum range if threated, he led the strike package to the preplanned launch point, ensuring maximum weapons remained in the target area recording all weapons hits, ensuring target destruction and preventing the need for further strikes. By his skillful airman-ship, steadfast aggressiveness, and exemplary devotion to duty in the face of hazardous flying conditions, Lieutenant DeJarnett reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service
